Colby’s mission is clear and purposeful: to empower both dogs and their owners through personalized, compassionate training situations that deliver lasting results. By combining expertise, patience, and a deep understanding of canine behavior, Colby ensures that every dog and owner experience a transformative journey, fostering stronger bonds while developing clear communication between you and your dog.
From a young age, I developed a deep connection with dogs. This passion grew even stronger in fifth grade when I completed a class project on Golden Retrievers, educating my classmates about their role as retrieving dogs and the history of the breed. A week later, as summer began, my parents told me we were going for a ride. When we arrived, I was greeted by a litter of Golden puppies. When my dad encouraged me to pick one out, I was overcome with emotion, and that moment marked the beginning of my journey toward becoming a dog trainer.
I spent the next 11 years with Max, building a strong bond while training him using techniques I learned from Cesar Millan videos. I eagerly anticipated coming home from school each day to walk and play with him. Max lived a fulfilling life and inspired me to pursue my passion for working with dogs.
After high school, I enlisted in the Marine Corps Infantry with the goal of becoming a K9 handler. Unfortunately, due to color blindness, that dream became unfeasible. However, during my service, I volunteered at the Onslow County Animal Shelter on weekends, caring for and exercising the dogs there. Fellow Marines frequently asked for my help in training their puppies and dogs, and although I wasn’t paid, I found immense fulfillment in spending time with these animals.
Upon completing my military service, I knew my next step was to become a professional dog trainer. I spent three years shadowing exceptional trainers, absorbing everything I could to refine my skills. In 2022, I founded Colby’s K9 Academy, and since then, I have dedicated myself to helping clients build better relationships with their dogs.
My mission is to assist dog owners in overcoming behavioral challenges while creating personalized, structured training plans that ensure lasting success for their dogs. I believe a well-trained dog can significantly improve the quality of life for any family, and I am committed to helping clients navigate this rewarding journey.
